The Cherohala Challenge is one of the most demanding and scenic cycling events in the Southeast, testing riders with 115 miles and more than 10,350 feet of climbing across Tennessee and North Carolina. Beginning in Vonore, cyclists tackle the legendary 318 curves of the Tail of the Dragon before descending into the breathtaking Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest near Robbinsville, North Carolina. The route then climbs the spectacular Cherohala Skyway, rewarding riders with sweeping mountain vistas and unforgettable views along one of the nation’s most scenic byways.

Participants who complete the challenge in seven hours or less from the official mass start time earn the coveted Dragon Slayer medal, a prestigious achievement for cyclists who conquer this epic mountain ride.
