Mountain Makins Festival
The Mountain Makins Festival, a celebration of Appalachian culture and folk life, is the area's largest annual festival. It takes place the fourth weekend of October on the grounds of the Rose Center, an 1892 Victorian schoolhouse. Step back in time with demonstrations of the traditions of Appalachia: spinning, woodworking, quilting, blacksmithing, apple butter making, dulcimer making, music and dance. The juried craft show features artisans from around the region during this two-day festival. Mountain Makins has been named a Top 20 Event twice by the Southeast Tourism Society.
